MUSICAL OF MUSICALS (THE MUSICAL)

Music by ERIC ROCKWELL
Lyrics by JOANNE BOGA
Book by ERIC ROCKWELL and JOANNE BOGA

A musical about musicals! In this hilarious satire of musical theatre, one story becomes five delightful musicals, each written in the distinctive style of a different master of the form, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim.

The basic plot: June is an ingenue who can't pay the rent and is threatened by her evil landlord. Will the handsome leading man come to the rescue?

The variations are: a Rodgers and Hammerstein version, set in Kansas in August, complete with a dream ballet; a Sondheim version, featuring the landlord as a tortured artistic genius who slashes the throats of his tenants in revenge for not appreciating his work; a Jerry Herman version, as a splashy star vehicle; an Andrew Lloyd Webber version, a rock musical with themes borrowed from Puccini; and a Kander and Ebb version, set in a speakeasy in Chicago.

Auditions: Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 November
Recalls: Saturday 30 November

WORKING

Book by NINA FASO & STEPHEN SCHWARTZ
Music by CRAIG CARNELIA, JAMES TAYLOR, MARY RODGERS, MICKI GRANT & STEPHEN SCHWARTZ
Lyrics by CRAIG CARNELIA, JAMES TAYLOR, MICKI GRANT, STEPHEN SCHWARTZ & SUSAN BIRKENHEAD

From the book by STUDS TERKEL

The hopes, dreams, joys and concerns of the average working American are the focus of this unique, extraordinary musical. That the everyday lives of common men and women should be so compelling and moving will surprise and inspire anyone who has ever punched a time clock.

Based on Studs Terkel's best-selling book of interviews with American workers, Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and women that the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the parking lot attendant, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, the trucker, the fireman and the housewife, just to name a few. It's a highly original look at the American landscape that is simply impossible to forget.

Workshop: Thursday 5 December
Auditions: Saturday 4, Sunday 5 and Monday 6 January
Recalls: Saturday 11 January

A full audition notice will be released soon.
